Playing with fire is not just a spectator sport! If you're interested in learning more, you should come along to the training sessions. The most popular training sessions are the informal meets at Leighton Beach.
Also, if you have skills that you'd like to share, then you should come along, too. These sessions are a great opportunity to share your knowledge with other willing pupils, and to just have fun with others who share your love of fireplay.
Although some of us do do paid performances, many of us are hobbyists, and do this just for fun, and to keep the blood pumping. What better way to get the blood pumping, than to wizz a few flames about your body, close enough to keep you warm, but just far enough away from you to not burn you?
Playing with fire is also a great form of aerobic exercise, even for those of you who don't like to exercise, because it's FUN! :-)
If you live in or around Perth, we meet at Leighton Beach every full moon (weather permitting), just to get together informally, introduce new people to fire, and to have fun.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of their level of interest in fire, including you. No appointment necessary, no pressure, just an opportunity to learn more about playing with fire, and even to learn some for yourself. Feel free to bring along a friend or two, as this might make it less uncomfortable to meet us. But don't fear, for we are friendly people, and this is a casual event!
This page will be kept up to date as each full moon approaches, with the dates of the next few full moons, and weather reports. Please check here a day or two before you go, in case something happens that causes us to change the date of the meet. We try not to vary it, though, and stay faithful to the lunar calendar. :-)
Meet on Tuesday the 4th of May at Leighton Beach (about 5 mins North of Freo) at around 8pm (just look for the twirly-looking types). Please bring some twirling fuel, or a couple of dollars towards those who tend to bring some along anyway. The weather's going to be beautiful in the evening, but bring warm clothing anyway, as it often gets windy.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, there will be a lunar eclipse. It's worth checking it out, since the next one won't be until about 2007, and it won't be as good as this one. Whip out your cameras and warm clothes if you're staying up for this one! SciTech's website has more information about the eclipse, if you're game to stay up and watch it...
For your reference, here are the next few full moons. Note that the days we meet at Leighton may change (but usually don't). Check back here closer to the date, to be sure.

For more reference on the phases of the moon, the US Naval Observatory's Astronomical Applications Department has a page that lists all phases of the moon on it. Note that the times listed on that page are GMT. The times I list here are Perth local time.
We supply some equipment and fuel to burn, but there are a few essentials that you need to bring, plus a few other things that you should also bring:
